Overview
Every model by parameter
The list above is arranged by brand. Here the brand takes second place - the most powerful drives are at the top. A dash marks a parameter the manufacturer does not give for that model.

Selection
Four things that decide
Swing or sliding
A swing gate needs room to open, a sliding one needs room along the fence. That is where the choice of drive starts.
Weight and span
The manufacturer gives a maximum weight and leaf width. Working close to the limit shortens the life of the actuator.
Photocells are not optional
An entrance gate moves through space where people walk and cars drive. Edge protection is not an extra.
Power and reach
Power and control have to reach the gate in the fence. It is worth planning that with the fence, not after it is built.
Not sure which drive to pick?
Tell us the size of the door and the expected number of openings a day. We will point to a model with the right margin of power.
Entrance gate drives - swing and sliding
An entrance gate moves through space where people walk and cars drive. The choice starts with how it opens and how much it weighs.
A swing gate needs room to open, a sliding one needs room along the fence. That is the first thing that settles the type of drive. Swing gates use actuators - arm or screw type, fixed to the post and the leaf, one per leaf. Sliding gates use rack drives, bolted to a foundation beside the gate and transmitting movement through a toothed rack on the leaf.
The manufacturer gives a maximum weight and leaf width. Working close to that limit shortens the life of the actuator, so with heavier leaves it is worth taking a model with a margin. The span matters too, and whether the gate opens uphill - on a sloping drive the leaf behaves differently from a flat one. With two leaves the actuators have to work in a set order, so that the rebate closes properly.
Edge protection is not optional. Photocells across the entrance stop the gate when there is an obstacle in the way, and a warning lamp tells everyone around that the gate is moving. Power and control have to reach the gate in the fence - worth planning together with the fence rather than after it is built, because later it means digging up the drive.
What to check on the plot
- Swing or sliding
- It depends on space: a leaf needs room to open, a sliding gate a run along the fence.
- Leaf weight and width
- The two numbers the choice starts from. Working close to the limit shortens the life of the drive.
- Slope of the drive
- A gate opening uphill loads the actuator differently from one on level ground.
- Power and control
- Plan the cable route together with the fence. Later it means digging up the driveway.
